Introduced in 1982, the Nikkor AI-S lenses were Nikon's last fully-manual line before autofocus became popular. Their superb optics and robust construction made these lenses the first choice of photojournalists all over the world. They were also used extensively for shooting VFX cinematography on the original VistaVision camera systems. The 58mm f/1.2 Noct-Nikkor is the crown jewel of Nikon’s AI-S line of lenses. Produced between 1977 and 1997, the Noct earned a legendary reputation among astrophotographers for its extraordinary performance when shot wide-open. The aspheric front element does a brilliant job of preventing the kind of aberrations that plague other high-speed lenses, especially in the corners. Our rehousing features a 95mm front diameter, improved close focus at approximately 1’, and a cam-driven focus system that is as buttery smooth as the images produced by this storied lens.
