What if you could use your Optex Excellence System lenses on Full Frame sensors without changing angles, introducing artifacts, or compromising image quality? That is exactly what this new Full Frame module promises. But how does it really work — and why is it such a historic step for modern cinema? Let’s find out.
This is a replacement module for the original S35 unit of the Optex Excellence System. It is not an external add-on. You remove the original module and install this one directly, allowing the system to operate on Full Frame cameras.
Until now, the Optex Excellence System worked for 2/3”, S16, and S35 sensors. For the first time in its 25-year history, it can be used on Full Frame cameras — a major milestone for professionals in cinema.
Because of this design, there are no optical compromises or unwanted artifacts. The optical path remains clean and controlled.
Inside the module, Schott glass ensures outstanding optical performance. The module has been tested on professional cinema cameras such as the Alexa LF, Sony Venice, FX6, and Red Monstro 8K. Across all systems and resolutions, the results show sharp, beautiful images.
For anyone working with lenses in cinema, this means reliability. Your images stay consistent, precise, and cinematic.
One of the biggest concerns when moving to Full Frame is losing your familiar framing. With this module, that does not happen.
A 60° lens stays 60°. A 120° lens stays 120°.
Your visual language remains the same, whether you shoot on S35 or Full Frame cameras.
The light loss is less than 1 + 1/3 stops. For example, a T5.6 lens will measure approximately T8 + 1/3. This is a predictable and manageable change for any professional camera setup.
The mechanics are produced to military-grade standards. The anodizing and engraving are designed to last for decades. In addition, spare parts — including the glass — are available, ensuring long-term serviceability.
The module also includes:
An internal 52 mm filter slot, compatible with common photography filters
An externally adjustable polarizer, just like the original module
Ten 0.1 mm shims for precise adjustments, even with remote support
This Full Frame module is made for professionals using the Optex Excellence System in cinema who want to work with modern Full Frame cameras while keeping the same lens behavior, angles, and image quality.
It is already available for rental and for sale to existing Excellence owners through Freelance Camera BV in Belgium.
