One of the latest developments is that ARRI has signed an agreement to sell its global rental business, ARRI Rental, to H2 Equity Partners through a management buy-out led by the company's existing leadership team.
Dana Harrison will remain CEO of ARRI Rental, ensuring continuity for customers and partners across Europe, the United Kingdom, and North America.
It is important to note that this transaction does not include Illumination Dynamics, which remains part of ARRI.
For years, ARRI has operated in two different businesses:
This created a structural conflict of interest. ARRI sells equipment to independent rental companies around the world while also competing against them through its own rental network.
By separating both businesses, ARRI can now position itself as a completely independent technology partner for every rental house, production company, and filmmaker.
From a customer's perspective, very little is expected to change in the short term.
The management team remains in place, led by Dana Harrison, together with Russell Allen and Tamim Essaji. H2 Equity Partners is investing alongside this experienced leadership group, with the goal of supporting future growth while maintaining the company's technical expertise and customer relationships.
ARRI Rental will continue providing high-end equipment for feature films, premium television productions, commercials, and live events.
The company is also expected to continue developing its well-known proprietary technologies, including exclusive large-format camera systems, specialty lenses, and custom production equipment that have made it one of the most respected rental providers in the industry.
For ARRI itself, the sale represents a clear strategic shift.
Instead of operating both as a manufacturer and a rental company, the business will now focus its investments on developing new cinema cameras, lighting technologies, software, and future innovations.
According to ARRI, the company will continue working closely with the new independent ARRI Rental, ensuring that valuable feedback from filmmakers still helps shape future products.
The film industry is becoming more specialized. Manufacturers are increasingly focusing on innovation, while rental companies concentrate on supporting productions with equipment, technical expertise, and customer service.
For filmmakers, this separation could ultimately create stronger partnerships on both sides. ARRI gains greater independence as a technology manufacturer, while ARRI Rental receives the flexibility to grow as an independent global rental company backed by an investment partner with experience in developing medium-sized businesses.
